Density
Density = Mass / Volume
Density is the amount of “stuff” in a given amount of space.
Example #1:
Neutron stars —an extremely small, bright, and dense type of star— contain even more material than the sun, but they are only about 10 miles across — the size of a city.
A teaspoon of neutron star material would weigh 4 billion tons!
That is density.
Gravity of Space
Gravity is the consequence of density.
Spacetime — the substrate that holds the universe — warps in the presence of mass.
This warping is gravity; the bending of spacetime.
Density -> Warping of Spacetime -> Gravity
Gravity = Density of Mass
Gravity Wells. Objects bend spacetime into a “well.”
Gravity is acceleration. We are constantly falling into the gravity well of earth. Perpetually being pulled towards the center.
Notice: the more mass (density), the more warping of spacetime.
What happens when spacetime bends so much that it “breaks?”
Breaking of Spacetime = Blackhole
The substrate that holds reality together, spacetime, breaks.
We do not know conclusively what happens inside of a black hole, but we can use analogies to speculate.
Gravity : Density of Mass Energy
Blackhole : Critical Density of Mass Energy
Analogy #1 = Fire
Fire is the result of creating enough heat in one place to cause combustion.
In other words,
Fire : Critical Density of Thermal Energy
There exists a threshold, a transition, that separates invisible heat (friction) and visible light (flame). Increase the density of heat in a given amount of space until the threshold is reached; fire is born.
This threshold is analogous to the singularity of a black hole.
The “breaking point.”
Heat : Density of Thermal Energy
Fire : Critical Density of Thermal Energy
Consciousness
Experience, life, can be thought of as energy —life energy.
We all understand that the passing of time is dynamic.
Skydiving, sex, sports — time can pass quickly.
School, office, car, plane — time can pass slowly.
It seems that the amount of experience in a given moment determines the perceived “speed of time.”
Example:
Sitting alone in an empty room watching the clock tick -> slow time.
Skydiving from 13,000 feet -> fast time.
Experience, life energy, activity subjectively accelerates the passing of time.
Lack of experience, monotony, boredom subjectively slows the passing of time.
To continue the analogy,
Time : Density of Conscious Energy
? : Critical Density of Conscious Energy
Critical Density
What happens at the “Critical Density of Conscious Energy?”
In the case of space,
Critical Density = Blackhole
In the case of heat,
Critical Density = Fire
In the case of consciousness,
Critical Density = ?
What occurs at the breaking point of experience, the critical density of time?
Let us look at some possible examples of “Critical Density of Time.”
Monks experience profound states through deep meditation
Transcendence beyond the body, Unbounded Consciousness
Psychedelic trips impart powerful experiences
Breakthrough into another world, Unbounded Consciousness
Near-Death Experiences
Out of body experience, death, Unbounded Consciousness
Conclusion
Density of consciousness/experience alters the passing of time.
Sufficient density of conscious energy causes transcendence beyond this universe, as in the case of meditation, psychedelics, and near-death experiences.
Critical Density of Conscious Energy = Transcendence
To conclude the analogy across all three domains:
Mass Energy
Gravity : Density of Mass Energy
Blackhole : Critical Density of Mass Energy
Thermal Energy
Heat : Density of Thermal Energy
Fire : Critical Density of Thermal Energy
Conscious Energy
Experience/Time : Density of Conscious Energy
Transcendence : Critical Density of Conscious Energy
The lesson here is to experience, to live.
Density of Experience makes the most of every moment.
My personal journey is to reach the threshold of consciousness; to experience the Critical Density of Consciousness.
Stay tuned for more adventures!
